Make hard disk backup image, raid 1 recognized as separate disks

I have HP Proliant ML150G3 with 2X160GB hard disks on "sata hostraid (adpahci)" raid controller as RAID1. I found on net that it is not fully hardware controller and that device drivers are needed for it to work. I would like to make backup image of the hard disk, but until now haven't found imaging software that recognized logical raid disk. Imaging software either freezes or recognizes two separate disks.
There are solutions to make images from the OS, but I would prefer OS independent solution because in hard disk failure if I use recovery disk, recover still can't be done if RAID is not recognized.

Any suggestion?

Both disks should contain the same data if the RAID 1 was mirroring correctly.
You could take the image from either disk.

Unfortunately I don't have spare disks to test taking image from only one disk and synchronizing other.
Is there any one that tested this?
where do you want to store the backup image?

You may want to give Clonezilla a try. It's free Open Source...

Bevhost:
I would store the image on the second partition of the RAID and then on tape.

Veedar:

I tried clonezilla, it also founded two disks.
In the colezilla forums there is a guy that helps creating version with proper drivers but several months there is no message from him :(. I guess I'll have to wait

Until the solution, I'll try Bart's PE with drivers and ghost installed.

Yes Bart's PE is worth a look. This is the one I use it has a lot of storage drivers built in...

Computer data storage, often called storage or memory, is a technology consisting of computer components and recording media used to retain digital data. In addition to local storage devices like CD and DVD readers, hard drives and flash drives, solid state drives can hold enormous amounts of data in a very small device. Cloud services and other new forms of remote storage also add to the capacity of devices and their ability to access more data without building additional data storage into a device.
