What are the correct permissions for the home folder share

Can anyone tell me the correct permissions for the home folder share for a windows 2003 network. I did set the permissions in such a way that the users could not access \\server\home but could access \\server\home\%username% however this seemed to create a problem for synchronising offline files. I kept getting a permission denied, even still I would like to have it so users can access \\server\home but get an access denied on accessing each others folders

Give Everyone Read and List Folder Contents on the home folder and full sharing permissions for Everyone. And then give each user the permission to their home folder.

Giving everyone full permission for the home folder will allow all users to be able to view each others home folder. If I had 100 users it would not be possible to go to each home folder and assign the correct permission. It is the parent home folder permissions that need to be set correctly so that when the users home folder location is specified in A.D the home folder gets created with the correct permissions and all other users are denied permissions to the home folder.

NTFS:
"Users" --> just need to "Read"
"creator owner".  -->  need "full control!"

Sharing Permissions:
Everyone (or better users)  --> full control
As explained in my post above, give Everyone full control in the "Sharing Permissions".

In response to above if you give users the read permission then each user will have read permission to the other users home folder.

Unfortunately the above two reponses do not meet the requirement and still require further editing after the home folders are created. I believe there has to be special permissions applied to the parent home folder. Basically the same setup as the user shared folders that sbs creates by default

sid_f you stated what permissions are needed on teh share not the users home folder.

for me the share is the folder where all teh home folders reside hence all teh users will need read and list access to that folder and teh share then the individual user folders will need to have admin full control and creator owner full control and that shoudl be it

you might want to include system full control as well if you are intending to back up the folders with a system account

Ok, apologies if I have not been clear, here is the requirment:

What NTFS and share permissions are required on the folder that hosts all the users home folders, so that if I specify in active directory to use \\server\home\%username% as the users home folder directoty that the folder that get created inside the home folder for each user have the correct permissions that prevent other users from accessing there home folder,

The solution should not require further editing of users home folders
