Yeah i figured there would be some issues with the different hardware, but in the past its just been an issue of some things not working, and i just reinstall the driver. Unfortunately in this case i cant even get into windows to do that :(. <br />

I would have thought that it would have been easier to got from a 745 -&gt; 755 than 620 -&gt; 745, but at least the latter boots. <br />

I checked the drives, both are sata and i even swapped them. The 755 HDD in the 745 worked, and the &nbsp;745 HDD in the 755 did not. <br />
<br />
It looks as if the only option is indeed to just start fresh. This is just an incredible nuisance because of all the small fixes, little bits of software, licenses and all that that we've done that i'll have to redo. I guess its better than spending all summer tryign to figure this problem out if there is no real solution.

Here's an update. Ive run sysprep /generalize /oobe and created an image. The computer can now at least boot into windows, but it is incredibly slow, and freezes on pretty much any config change (not useful).<br />

i will give the bio's drive changes a shot now. Perhaps this is what's holding me back at the moment.<br />

The clone is slow as said before, but it turns out that the memory is being eaten up by 3800+ processes, the vast majority being PRISMSVR.exe and userinit.exe. <br />
<br />
The clone without sysprep runs perfectly, but after sysprep /generalize, it even doesnt work on the exact same computer anymore.

Update:<br />
Apparently the error we were getting had do to with a program Userlock. It was trying to open userinit.exe at startup, but since the program didnt properly load, it kept starting userinit over and over again.<br />
<br />
So we are having problems with the sysprep /oobe, which is wiping all accounts on the computer, and as such we cannot loging. (administrator is disabled by default in vista). Ah wish i had just documented all the changes we made over the years and started a fresh clone (but my boss wouldn't allow it. hope he reads this :P)

Eventually, we went with teh sysprep method, and added an answer file. It has been somewhat annoying as we've never had to do this before, but i guess thats how tech goes. Thanks all for your thoughts. Im sure if anything similar pops up i at least have them as a starting point.

Windows Repair just tells me it cannot repair the startup, and that a patch, or recent driver installation might be the cause.<br />

I have tried running in safe mode with the same result. I have also tried switching some bios settings but to no avail. Does anyone have any thoughts or have fixed this issue? <br />

Cloning images to Optiplex 755. Getting blue screens and reboots

The term "Backup" means the methods and processes involved to copy computer data (system data as well as application data) to media other than the ones where the data originally live (disk, tape, optical, cloud).
