I woudl like to schedule it tommorow at 5am on july 23rd. &nbsp;I dont really understand all that code as when i set it up i went through scheduled task and filled in everything. &nbsp;Its a development server so i have to make sure it doesnt reboot during the day otherwise i would be in big trouble.<br />

I go to control panel, administrative tools, click on schedule tasks, right click on task scheduler and choose to create task.<br />

Under General:<br />
Name: &nbsp;Reboot<br />
Description: &nbsp;Reboot<br />
Run whether user is logged on or not<br />

Begin the task On a schedule<br />
One time 7-23-08 at 5:00am<br />

Actions: (start a program)<br />
Go to windows\system32\shutdown.<wbr />exe for the script<br />
I dont add anything in the add arguments (optional) or start in (optional)<br />

Conditions: nothing<br />

Settings:<br />

Allow task to be run on demand<br />
Stop the task if it runs longer than 3 days<br />

Start-&gt;Run-&gt;shutdown <br />
<br />
You'll more than likely see a black/blank window pop up and disappear...shutdown requires these parameters to work. &nbsp;The arguments for this command are not optional.<br />
<br />
And yes, I dropped the timer down to 5 in that last post.

If i wanted to add the date in there how would i do that with the &nbsp;/sd (start date) parameter command. &nbsp;I am just curious because I have 5 pm coming up today still and then 5am which is tommorow morning. &nbsp;Without specifying the date, woudlnt it reboot at 5pm today then.<br />

No no - my point was that if you were setting up the task via the gui and you only entered the program 'shutdown.exe' - that nothing would happen.<br />
To prove it, just click Start-&gt;Run-&gt;shutdown <br />

You should be able to just schedule it in the Task Manager. &nbsp;Have it execute &quot;shutdown -r -f&quot;<br />
This will run shutdown with the opetions to (f)orce a shutdown and (r)eboot. &nbsp;This way you can also specify an account to use to perform the action instead of the system account which under some circumstances will not work.

I disagree with that last statement - technically speaking, the system account has more control than many, if not all, other local accounts...<br />
And with the schtasks command-line tool, you can easily specify any other account as well, including domain accounts using<br />
/ru domain\username /rp password<br />

Just wanted to clarify that one route is not necessarily better than the other - both options, command-line &amp;&nbsp;gui, have the same ultimate functionality. &nbsp;I just prefer the command-line route, since it's generally more of an automated approach (from a scripting standpoint).

Yup i have no idea why its not working. &nbsp;It shows the reboot was sucessful but the server was never rebooted. &nbsp;So i ran this command Start-&gt;Run-&gt;Cmd /k schtasks /create /ru system /sc once /st 05:00:00 /tn &quot;Reboot&quot; /tr &quot;cmd /c shutdown /r /t:5 /f /d p:2:17 and it opened a black screen saying its registered and it stayed opened. &nbsp;I get in the next morning and it said it ran sucessful but the server never rebooted. &nbsp;I am so confused on this as its so much easier to schedule a reboot in windows 2003. &nbsp;After running that command i opened up task scheduler and seen it was scheduled and here is the stuff listed for action.<br />

well its funny that this command worked on my virtual server 2008 machine. &nbsp;Have it execute &quot;shutdown -r -f&quot; &nbsp;I am not sure but that other command that you gave me doesnt work at all. &nbsp; I will check the log file and see but there is something wrong with the command your giving me.
