If you already have a DC running in 2003, then you should be able to add another 2003 DC. <br />

Do you have non 2003 DC and whats the forest functional level?<br />

Exchange 2007 has too many other requirements like your Schema Master should be Windows 2003 SP1, etc.<br />

I had a 2000 DC that I just removed by running DCpromo on, be that it was running the DC. Now that it's gone the only server I have running AD is the 2003 server that replaced it.

to be honest I'm not sure I had another admin working with me on it and I can't ask him now as he is not around. Is there a way to look at the 2000 server and see or now that DCpromo has been run on that server it's to late?

yes all of the roles were moved to the new 2003 server, before I ran DCpromo to demote the 2000 server we had it turned off for a week just to make sure everything kept running.

Then you should be able to add the 2003 member server as a DC. Select the option that says Additional DC for an existing domain. Make sure the IP details of the server is fine. Static IP with the current 2003 DC's IP address as the DNS server (assuming it is running DNS).

When I try and run DCpromo on the server I want to add the following error happens: DCpromo stops the NETLOGON service, creats the windows folders and then starts the examining an existing Active Directory forest, I then recieve the attached message.<br />

The R2 version of 2003 has an additional ADPREP that must be run from the second CD in the R2 set of disks. &nbsp;Run that and you should be ok. &nbsp;Read the note shortly into this article.<br />

When I ran ADprep on the current windows 2003 AD server it says that ADPrep/ forst and domain have already been run and nothing was changed. When I try and add the new server and make it a secondary AD (Windows 2003 R2 server) it can't run ADprep because it's not a server but when I try and run DCPromo it give me the message from the last posting.

My apologies that I miss understood the link and how it described to run the different ADprep's. I took it as saying that you run the disc 1 version on 2003 servers only and the R2 version on 2003 R2 servers only. <br />
<br />
Now that I have run the R2 version on the 2003 server I was able to add the second 2003 R2 server with only a couple of errors, events 13 and 53258.<br />
