MTU PROBLEM OVER CISCO IPSEC VPN

WE HAVE CREATE AN IPSEC VPN BETWEEN 2 CISCO ROUTERS (1841 10.0.0.0/24 HDLC  & 876 ADSL SUBNET 192.168.1.0/24). WHEN WE TRY TO PING AN IP FROM 10.0.0.0/24 TO 192.168.1.0/24 WE GET A NORMAL REPLY WITH AVERAGE  ROUND TRIP 30 MS WHICH IS QUITE NORMAL FOR THE TYPE OF CONNECTIONS WE USE. THE PROBLEM IS THAT WHEN WE TRY TO EVERYTHING ELSE WE FAIL. FOR EXAMPLE WHEN I TRY TO OPEN A REMOTE DESKTOP CONNECTION, MY SCEEN TURNS TO BLACK AND I NEVER REACH THE WINDOW THAT ASK FOR REMOTE DESKTOP CREDENTIALS. SO I SUPPOSE THAT THERE IS AN MTU PROBLEM. I CHANGE CISCO'S MTU SIZE TO 1440 (ip tcp adjust-mss 1440) BUT WITH NO RESULTS.DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA?

Routers

A router is a networking device that forwards data packets between computer networks. Routers perform the "traffic directing" functions on the Internet. The most familiar type of routers are home and small office cable or DSL routers that simply pass data, such as web pages, email, IM, and videos between computers and the Internet. More sophisticated routers, such as enterprise routers, connect large business or ISP networks up to the powerful core routers that forward data at high speed along the optical fiber lines of the Internet backbone. Though routers are typically dedicated hardware devices, use of software-based routers has grown increasingly common.
