Problem upgrading MySQL from 4.1.2 to 5.0

I am trying to upgrade MySQL from 4.1.2 to 5.0.X.  This is on a redhat 4 server.  I downloaded the packages below.  When I go in to the GUI and do a right click > Open with install packages everything looks like it loads.  I do a mysql -V and it show the updated version.  However mysql account is deleted and I cannot start mysql.  I have tried other packages and loaded multiple diffrent redhat 4 servers.  They all do the same.  I am not even sure where to trouble shoot this.  I only have a couple days to figure this out.
