You mean the mysql system account? 
Delete all the packages again from your system and start over with a fresh installation, that should get it sorted. 
 
If you have any databases on this server, make sure to back them up first (copy the files from /var/lib/mysql away to a safe place for future reference). 
 
Uninstall the current packages using either the Package installer application or by using the rpm command from a console directly, e.g: 
 
rpm -e MySQL-client-community 
rpm -e MySQL-devel-community 
 
yum remove MySQL-client-community &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; will work too. 
 
If all traces of MySQL have been removed from your system, change to the directory where the newly downloaded files reside and enter the command: 
 
rpm -Uhv MySQL*.rpm 
 
to get it installed.

I tried to do a complete remove of all of the packages but was unable to remove the share-compatibility. &nbsp; 
 
Here is what I ran then and the errors. &nbsp;

You can try to start the mysqld daemon with:

and use the command line tool

shell&gt; /usr/bin/mysql -u root mysql 
mysql&gt; show tables 
 
Try 'mysqld --help' if you have problems with paths. Using --log 
gives you a log in /var/lib/mysql that may be helpful.

Renaming the mysql directory allowed the install to finish and create the mysql account. &nbsp;I however could not start the service. &nbsp;I think there are articles on this issue. &nbsp;

I am trying to upgrade MySQL from 4.1.2 to 5.0.X. &nbsp;This is on a redhat 4 server. &nbsp;I downloaded the packages below. &nbsp;When I go in to the GUI and do a right click &gt;&nbsp;Open with install packages everything looks like it loads. &nbsp;I do a mysql -V and it show the updated version. &nbsp;However mysql account is deleted and I cannot start mysql. &nbsp;I have tried other packages and loaded multiple diffrent redhat 4 servers. &nbsp;They all do the same. &nbsp;I am not even sure where to trouble shoot this. &nbsp;I only have a couple days to figure this out.
