hp dx2250M repeatedly crashes

Ever since I purchased hp dx22590M system will randomly crash.  Screen freezes, Ctrl-Alt-Del will not work and only recovery is with Cold Boot.  Much, but not al the time this happens MS Office 2003 is running and I am navigating an MS WORD or MS EXCEL document.

OS is WIN XP PRO SP3 (but also happened with SP2).  No minidu,p is generated.

Hi

is the machine still under warrenty, this sounds liek a catastrophic hardware failure not within teh OS especially as no minidump is generated.

could be power supply failure

Clean out all the dust from the PC, check for overheating and if the fans are running smoothly. Carefully remove the heatsink from the CPU, clean it's and the CPU's surface very thoroughly from any residue, then apply a very small amount of thermal transfer paste, and firmly reattach the heatsink.

Both slam69 and rindi appear to be on the right track.  I had several e-chats with hp support and the discussion has widened to add the other pc on my desk (hp dx2200M) as it too is running hot.  Main problem with the dx2250M was that CPU fan was loafing along at 1000 rpm.  hp rep had me remove fan speed control.  Very noisy operation, especially when I fouind dx2200 running much hotter.  Downloaded speedfan 4.34 to both pcs.  Fans are running around 2500 rpm on both.  So far so good

So far, installation and use of speedfan 4.34 has prevented further chrashes.

Microsoft Windows XP is the sixth release of the NT series of operating systems, and was the first to be marketed in a variety of editions: XP Home and XP Professional, designed for business and power users. The advanced features in XP Professional are generally disabled in Home Edition, but are there and can be activated. There were two 64-bit editions, an embedded edition and a tablet edition.
