Hello,
This is kind of two questions in one. I have a Dell PowerEdge 2900 server with the SAS 6/iR controller in it. The controller only supports 2 RAID arrays at the hardware level.
I currently have three mirrored RAID arrays, two on the controller and two more drives that are mirrored in Windows Server 2003.
I was curious if it is possible to upgrade the controller to one that would support more than two arrays (without having to rebuild all three arrays), so I dont have to use windows to manage one of them. I know that for sure I'd have to start over with the array that windows controls, but what about the other two?
The main reason I want all of my arrays on this server to be controlled by the controller is to be able to have global hot spares in my two open drive spots. Does windows Server RAID support hot spares? If so I dont really need to upgrade the controller.
Thanks,
Christian
