Blank address bar searches

Friend of mine is having trouble with her laptop. If she tries to do a search from the address bar,the screen goes white and begins to flicker, then returns to the page she began with(homepage),never giving a search result. But, she can go to the yahoo search bar and it will work fine. The problem also happens if you go to a page and download a program,it tries to open the page but doesn't. What going on??Thanks

Hello Gigabyte2004,

1. It's possible that you've set up your copy of Internet Explorer to disallow searching from the toolbar. In IE go to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced tab, and make sure you haven't selected Do not search from the tool bar.

2. You can also reset your autosearch capability by editing the Registry. Remember to save a copy before you make any changes.  Navigate to the hive "HKEY CURRENT USER" and the key "Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL" you should be able to double-click the default entry in the right pane of the registry editor then enter

http://home.microsoft.com/access/autosearch.asp?p=%s

Restart and, with any luck, you'll be good to go.

3. You may have spyware.  Run a good antispyware like Superantispyware

Hope this helps!
