If you have either Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 or newer installed or the Windows Server 2003 Platform SDK, then you should be able to do this. &nbsp;If you do not, then you might look into the previous suggestion. &nbsp;Assuming that you have at least one of these installed, you should have a file named &quot;pvk2pfx.exe&quot; installed on your computer that you can use to convert the .PVK file to .PFX format to be used with signtool.exe.<br />

Thank you for the two program links. &nbsp;Although each of these programs bombed out with errors when I ran them, it was enough to get me on track to the solution. &nbsp; I found that Internet Explorer version 7 forces you to get your key as pfx. &nbsp;But, I.E. 6 allows you to get your key in the format I needed. &nbsp;I refunded my two day old pfx key and purchased again on an old pc running I.E. 6. &nbsp;That allowed me to ket the format I needed. &nbsp;II dinked around for hours on this one. &nbsp;Thank you!

After several hours of research and experimentation, I found that OpenSSL, X2Net, &amp;&nbsp;Crypto4 can convert keys from the pfx format into pvk &amp;&nbsp;spc signature files. &nbsp;But, none of the seven versions of OpenSSL would run on my Vista pc. &nbsp;They're supposed to but they didn't. &nbsp;X2Net and Crypto4PKI looked were extremely clear and easy to use but neither one gave me pvk-spc files that were recognized as a valid signature pair. &nbsp;<br />
I finally found out that when certificates are purchased/delivered via Internet Explorer 7, they digital signature must be created as a pfx. &nbsp;However, if you purchase a digital signature certificate on a pc running Internet Explorer 6, then the company selling the digital signature will prompt during your puchase by asking if you would like to save as a pvk file. &nbsp;Click yes, browse, and save this pvk file somewhere safe on your hard drive. &nbsp;Then they will send you an e-mail with a link to download the spc file. &nbsp;Do this and you have your signature in pvk, spc format. &nbsp;If you do this on I.E. 6, you won't get a PFX. &nbsp;You will get spc-pvk files. &nbsp;<br />
So the easiest and only way I found to convert my digital signature certificate from PFX to PVK, SPC was to return the signature I bought while using I.E. 7 and purchase a signature from the same vendor while using I.E. 6 on an old pc. &nbsp;The company has a 30 day return policy on digital coding signatures so it didn't cost me anything other than a lot of time and energy to convert from PFX to pvk-spc. &nbsp;

Encryption is the process of encoding messages or information in such a way that only authorized parties can read it.
