The obvious choice for DNS servers on the internet is always some form of nix with BIND, my personal suggestions would be freebsd with BIND for the win, especially if it is a dedicated DNS box.<br />

If it's an internal DNS server for a local lan windows dns server on 2003 and 2007 works just fine and still gives a lot of good functionality (including notify and such if you are pushing updates from a lan -&gt; internet in a master\slave role). &nbsp;Main advantage to the windows route is that you've probably already got a windows server of some sort and any load for a few domains is insignificant.

I'm asking for recommendations for one of the dns appliances out there? &nbsp;This is for public\external dns, not internal. &nbsp;We're currently using Nix and Bind. &nbsp;The suggestion has been made to build a Nix box and install the latest version of Bind. &nbsp;I've been asked to make a recommendation on a dns appliance.
