Question: Where are you sending the email from? Are you internally sending it or are you sending it from outside the domain2.com network?<br />

If you are sending it from outside, have you registered your domain2.com with a domain registry? Also, have you checked to ensure that your new domain name has been properly registered and that the mx entry is pointing to the correct ip? Also, have you checked to ensure that the new domain dns has propagated to the server you are trying to send the email from? Normally it takes around 24 - 48 hours for dns propagation to happen world wide.<br />

Also, do you have any mail filtering software between the internet and your email server? that will also need to be updated so that it knows about the new domain and allows emails addressed to this new domain to reach your server.<br />

You can't add the from field in like that, just set the default on the account to be what you want and that is how it will go.<br />

We have been using multiple domains for a while now, for the other domains we use SMTP to send, and the accounts have them as an additional smtp address to receive emails. But the primary domain is no longer in use and that business name is gone, so we do not want end users to send from that anymore, so I wanted to change the primary to one of the others and completely phase out the current primary.<br />
All MX records have been setup accordingly. The test emails are being sent internally to external.<br />

You shouldn't need to change anything in local DNS.<br />

domain2.com is your other local domain, right?<br />

Many thanks for your replies. I will try the suggested after hours and get back to you.<br />
We do use a smart host but I did remove it for troubleshooting and still had the problem.<br />
No we can't send to outside domains, our local domain, is domain3.local, which has no reflection on the current primary smtp address or the new one I'm trying to impliment, but I will look to change the FQDN on the Default SMTP server and see what happens as that currently states the internal FQDN (domain3.local). Although the current primary smtp domain domain1.com is completely different and works?

Nivlesh - you were correct, we use a BT line and we needed to add the domains before they were allowed to be sent! All working ok after that.
