Problems after install of Firefox 3.0

I installed Firefox 3.0 on a clients laptop running XP SP2.  After using it a while suddenly there was a pull down screen taking up about half of the browser window.  Its a totally gray window below where the web page is displayed and above the bar that says done, taking up the entire width of the screen.

I can go to boundary of this gray windows where it meets the web page window and see double arrows.  I can then pull this new window down to make it just about disappear.  The best I can describe it would be the type of window resizing one can do with most email clients.  But I cant make it disappear completely and then whenever I close and reopen Firefox the darn thing is there again.

I have cleared out the cache and private area.  I have uninstalled 3.0 and reinstalled version 2 and now its there in version 2. Then I cleared out everything again and reinstalled 3.0 and its still there.  I cant give my client their laptop back until I fix this.

I also would like to know peoples opinions of Firefox 3.  Should I be upgrading my clients computers to this or such I stay with 2 until all the bugs are out?  One reason I started upgrading was because of a problem where Firefox 2 used large amounts of memory and doesnt seem to return most of it when the application is closed.  I was hoping this might be fixed in 3.

Thanks,
Al

Oh, and Yes I would continue to upgrade to 3.0. Especially if you have AutoUpdate turned on in the Tools->Options->Advanced->Update section. Mozilla will fix things pretty regularly, but you can't control the Add-ons or Themes people decide to use. Sometimes they may injure or break Firefox.

See my links here regarding transferring bookmarks and other items once you detemine a New Profile fixes it.

Just unclicked the Status Bar.  When I did it the small bar above the task bar disappeared, so it's not that.  When  I open firefox it comes to the home page.  If I click the exit tab key (not the whole window, just that tab) instead of getting no tab I get an untitled (all white) tab.

I think I killed it.  But, per usual, Im not exactly sure how I did it.   First I did a system restore back to before I installed 3.0.  Problem was still there.  I looked at the Mozilla Zine and saw discussion about add-ons in 3.0.  I went to the Firefox add-ons and uninstalled all of them.  Problem went away.  So it was a problem with one of the add-ons.

Id done a lot of installing that I didnt want to lose, so I then restored up to the time when I had the problem.  I was intending on uninstalling the add-ons one by one, to see which on it was, but the problem wasnt there???
But Ill take it.
Thanks to all,
Al

Web browsers are applications used primarily to display documents, files and media from the Internet, identified by a Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) that can be a page, image, video or other file. Some browsers require the use of add-ons or extensions to safely render the information they receive; others have systems built into them to perform the same functions.
