Need suggestions for tape backup technology

Looking at upgrading the tape backup solution for a client.

They need to do a full backup once a week, and this currently is using a Sony AIT4 library that can hold 8 tapes (currently set 7 data, 1 cleaning)

They need to backup around 1.5 TB of data, which with compression fits on to 6.25 tapes. They have room for a little while and can archive data off, however they like everything backed up once a week to make restoration simple.

I am a little out of date when it comes to tape backup technologies.

Is there a drive that can backup say minimum 2gb preferably 3gb native on a single cartridge, or do I need to get in to autoloaders/libaries for this. Ideally, I want the backup to be on fewer tapes as possible.

I think its possible to get more data on a tape. I want to lower the number of tapes currently used, as the AITs I am using hold 200gb native already.
