How to run a shell script at startup and shutdown?

I've a MacOS X iMac running 10.4 and I need to execute a shell script everytime the computer startup and shutdown. What do I need to modify at system level to have this script run at those events?

Hi,

Just add the ".command" extension to your shell script and add it to the user's login items.
