I followed the directions on <a href="http://support.microsoft.com/?id=324801" rel="ugc">http://support.microsoft.c<wbr />om/?id=324<wbr />801</a> and performed the steps listed.<br />
1. Schema change worked<br />
2. Domain naming master role failed - could not contact current FSMO<br />
3. RID Master, ect. failed - could not contact current FSMO<br />

correction - RID Failed, PDC and infrastructure were ok but had to force the switch.<br />

Make both machines global catalog servers then try moving the roles again

negative - both the failing roles gave the the same error again. &quot;the current FSMO holder could not be contacted&quot;<br />
This error leads me to belive that there is a network connectivity problem somewhere. Machine 1 (the one I am trying to demote) is a sql server and all the clients can connect with no problem.<br />

Where is this problem DC pointing too for DNS? Is it pointing to the same DNS server as your new one?

I then changed machine 2 to the GC (through sites and services). I then tried to remove the DC role from machine 1 and it gives me the following error.<br />
