Process explorer is a good utility, but it isnt showing the programs that are running at the background. Is there any such utility. And I am also looking for the one that gives a shortcot or small icons on various items on the desktop.
Process Explorer does show programs running in the background. Here is a tutorial on how to read Process Explorer

Here are other utilities from the same group

I have just downloaded the sandra lite (evaluation version).. and check it out. Looks like its a good application.
Hi scoinzen

I will recommend a software called Security Task Manager.
Security Task Manager displays detailed information about all running processes (applications, DLLs, BHOs, and services). Very easy to use and give a lot of information.
Of course this isnt a free program but it has 30-day trial.

Hope it helps !
