sbs 2003 server status reports failed after updates

after installing several updates on July 8th, including kb948110 sql 2000 sp4 security update, the daily server reports ceased functioning. The only event log message is event id 1 relating to sql. all other server functions appear normal. I've read that this update can cause company web to fail, but that does not appear to be the case. I've run the monitoring configuration wizard in both modes to no avail.
