you could burn it to a data dvd as a backup and then deal with the drm later on.
Using Nero
select from the options DVD >data disc
or your default burner.
How big is the file?
you can do the same with CD burn as data disc if the size is below 650 megs or around that.
or capture the file

Itunes allows you to use it on other computers up to a certain amount of times.
as you know it's covered with DRM and needs to lookup your user name valid lisense.

would need to know what site you got it from - most sites don't allow burning to media, but *do* allow you to move your account (and hence the drm lock) to another machine.

File is a .wmv (media player) file.

I would prefer to rip the film to dvd if i could, but am having issues.
I can not rip to dvd thought because of the DRM. So tried to remove the DRM using tunebite. This removes the DRM, but also kills the bit rates and when the DRM removed file is played the audio and video fall out of sync within 5 - 10 minutes and never recovers. This file can be written to dvd though.

I am open to the best idea really.

I will add that i am not a pirater, and only require this doing on one film.

You can also use dvd decrypter to remove the DRM protection and burn it.

I downloaded and tried dvd decrypter.
It appears to only allow the creation of files or dvds from dvds.
My original data source is a file with DRM.

Tried the download of the fair4use utility and does not work.
I think i may have tried this before. I think it does not work well with media player 11.

dexterhome can you remember where you downloaded it from, here's my line of thinking,
most DRM video/audio come through places such as iTunes Real Media
Quicktime. And of course WMV  Microsoft.
With the iTunes tracks you can burn your iTunes using iTunes itself.
They allow you backup your media to cd.
What format is the piece?
There is Tunebite seems to be the most popular but it's not free.
look it up on the web ok.
On another note
You can also transfer these to another computer using either an ipod or a flash pen USB drive.
Better still what I do is always have a slaved hard drive that I use to store everything for situations just like this.
I even have my emails store folder on my slaved hard drive.
So I format my main C drive anytime without losing anything.

I have tried Tunebite, but it either drops too many frames to be worth watching or it drops the bitrate too low that playback is slow and un-watchable. Kind of double wammy issue.
The file was from mylovefilm.com and is wmv for media player. When i transfer to another computer it will not play. DRM kicks in and advises not able to watch or use.

I am going to try to convert video and audio separately as have not done so and it may allow conversion using Tunebite.

Hows your system good ram fast processor nice video card, these contribute to good video conversion. dropped frames may indicate either excessive ram used, or you dont have enough juice to do the job.

I'd check the hard drive before starting, run a disc cleanup first then defrag it.
Run nothing else while encoding.
