Population of Full text search Catalog for the first time

Can anyonte tell me that if i create a Full Text Search Catalog for the first time,will it get populated automatically or do we have to do it explicitly?

I guess you have to create full-text index also. AFAIR full-text index is populated just after you create it unless you specify NO POPULATION option.
