Add A record to DNS for old server IP to point to new server IP

I need to know how to add an A record to my in house DNS servers for a server that was removed from the domain.  I need that A record to point to the record for the new server.
I have two 2003 DC's that are also DNS servers.  DNS is AD Integrated.
They are set to forward to ISP DNS server.
This may fix an issue I am having with Word docs looking for templates on an old server.
I found this on EE:See below
We have had a new server installed (windows 2003 server) and all the data on the old server was transferred to the new open. When any users (XP pro) try to open any of the old word documents that were transferred over it takes upto 4mins for the document to open. If I copy the document to the local pc it still takes 4mins to open the document. This is just for Word documents everything else is fine.

The solution was to add an A record to DNS for the old server IP to point to the new server IP.  Can this be done?

Windows Server 2003

Windows Server 2003 was based on Windows XP and was released in four editions: Web, Standard, Enterprise and Datacenter. It also had derivative versions for clusters, storage and Microsoft’s Small Business Server. Important upgrades included integrating Internet Information Services (IIS), improvements to Active Directory (AD) and Group Policy (GP), and the migration to Automated System Recovery (ASR).
