Unable to Install Windows Server 2003

Hi,

I recently received my DL140 G3 Server and the issue I am having at the moment is getting my 2 (two) Seagate Barracuda 160GB hard drives detected during Server 2003 installation. I'm 100% sure the issue is with my SATA/SAS RAID controller. This happens to be a LSI PCI-X, 3 Gb/s, SAS, 8-port Host Bus Adapter (SAS3080X). I have installed both the drivers from the HP Site and the one from LSI site and still no go.

To install the drivers, I press F6 at the screen where it asks for 3rd Party Drivers. Next, I have a USB floppy drive connected to my server and the drivers are loaded there. When I continue with the setup, the hard drives are not found by the OS. The drives are simply not detected. Is there a step that I am missing in the BIOS or something. Please, any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Grinch

Well... I can verify that the controller is on the Windows HCL..

Where are you getting your driver from?

Stupid question but are the drives connected/powered up/spinning?

Hi

When starting up the server, can you press the respective key and get into your raid controller? once there try to see if you can see the drives. create your arrays etc and then try installing windows with f6 and installing the drivers. see if this helps

I guess, you have configured RAID successfully!

I think it is the driver issue. You must select the correct drivers (Unique for 32 and 64 bit OS). Please find this link for RAID Controller Driver for Windows 2000/Windows Server 2003:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=1842838&swItem=MTX-9553913a25fe499aa09e22cfe2&prodNameId=3285485&swEnvOID=1005&swLang=8&taskId=135&mode=4&idx=1

Format the floppy before using it. If possible use another Floppy.

Sorry for Embedded RAID driver link :) As you said that you have tried the driver from HP/LSI site. Please confirm if you have tried this, too:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=1842838&swItem=MTX-fbddb54c93334c36a218a051c7&prodNameId=3285485&swEnvOID=1005&swLang=8&taskId=135&mode=3

Otherwise, have you tried unattended OS installation or slipstreamng the RAID drivers.

I hope you will find it useful. Thanks

There is no option to configure my RAID controller during bootup. Only the Network cards can be configured. I dont think slipstreaming the drivers onto my OS Disk will make much of a difference  as the drivers are successfully loaded from the USB floppy drive. The drive is simply not detected by the OS.The LED's on my hot plug bay do not show any activity on the hard drive once the system is booted up.

how are you installing the OS? with the operating system CD?  I have seen a similar error with Dell servers, if you try to install using the OS CD rather than the initial setup CD it does not see the drives.

Yeah Im suprised there's no RADI config.. is there an option in the BIOS to enable RAID config menu on bootup? Is it worth testing the drives in another machine?

Have you tried to press Ctrl+A or F8 when prompted to enter the BIOS Setup utility?
