As you can see from the above posts you may well have a Sata drive, and XP came out before the introduction of these new Sata drives. &nbsp;There is an excellent description of the problem and how to overcome it, by LeeTutor, in my first thread above.

as i can see from the posts and links, this is a complex problem (for me anyway)<br />
I was hoping that this was going to be easy.<br />
I don't have time to understand all this or to take a plunge and try.<br />
I will call acer and ask them for a win xp machine.<br />
If they can't i will call DELL, and i'm sure they can deliver an xp laptop.<br />

If all else fails, i will find a computer tech here in ft myers who can help me.<br />

its not that difficult bud but if you are unsure its best not to mess with as they might invalidate your warrenty, I have heard acer are being nasty about trying to get xp on machines so you might find dell a safer option ;o)

That's kind of a manual way of doing things, here si an automated too that will add service packs, drivers, and even programs!<br />

This will allow you to rebuild the ISO with the key already typed in for you, the service pack and drivers slipstreamed in, and you can pre-configure a bunch of options prior to installing anything!

I need to buy a new Acer laptop. Very few come with xp pro installed, so it will be delivered with vista.<br />

I purchaseda whole bunch xp pro sp3 , from newegg, so i have xp to install.<br />
How do i kill vista ? and then install xp ?<br />
Do i have to format the drives?<br />
Or can i install xp regardless if vista is there?<br />
