Ways people port Windows & Linux servers into a VMWare

Hi

What are the ways people out there port Windows.

Can we use Ghost to take an image backup of a physical Dell PC hardware
& then port this image into the VMWare ESX?  What must we do - remove a
HAL (hardware abstraction layer) file & what's the file name?

What about the following tool :

Any other popular ways.  What about Linux porting  & tools that
comes free with VMWare ESX itself?

Just to clarify, did you mean restore it as a guest OS client
in the VMWare ESX  or  restore it to another physical test
workstation to do the conversion?
