Are these roaming or local profiles? Also, have they been configured as mandatory profiles? You can tell if they are mandatory by looking at:<br />

C:\Documents and Settings\%username% (where %username% is one of these problem users) and see if the file there is NTUSER.DAT or NTUSER.MAN. If it's the latter, then it's a mandatory profile and this is why no changes are saved.

Thanks, there is no NTUSER.MAN, only a .DAT<br />

If I boot the PC without joining the domain the local machine setting work so I can only assume that there is Group Policy setting causing the problem

The following message is displayed when booting the workstation:<br />
Your roaming profile is read only, you are logged on with the locally stored profile.<br />
<br />
I assume that the problem is with the Group Policy settings but dont see anything obvious!<br />

I have an installation with 3 workstations with windows xp logging onto a domain running server 2003<br />
I setup the mapped drives, program shortcuts, screen background and even word options for save as file type and default locations. this works perfectly until any of the workstations are rebooted, All the above setting are lost and I have to go through the whole proceedure again and everything is ok again ubntil the next reboot.<br />

I suspect that perhaps there is something to do with the group policy settings on the server but dont see anything obvious.<br />
