Sudden loss of wireless internet connection

We have a linksys wireless system with a BEFSR11 router which has worked fine for the past year. However, suddenly, we lose the wireless signal then it kicks in again and then off again.

What could be going on and what kind of troubleshooting should I try?

Hi!

If you can backup/export your settings to a file, it might be good to do a hard reset on your wireless router (please check manual on the location). Make sure you can bring back your settings (either through performing an import or doing it manually) after the reset assuming you have to connect it back to some broadband connection.

If it doesn't solve the problem, you could also try upgrading the firmware (caution: just make sure you follow the instructions).
Bad router. Sounds like it is failing and a new one will work fine.

If nothing has changed on your network and all was working fine and you have not added a new wireless telephone or your neighbor hasn't added a new wireless or changed channels, then that is all it can be.

They do fail. Some fail quickly and some die slow, long, painful deaths.

Hi,

Seems a hardware problem. Though to check if there is any software issue, use wireshark and examine the packets using WireShark:

www.wireshark.org

Also try updating the firmware.

So, do I connect the wireless router (which is now connected to the other router) directly to a computer in the network and then call up the router's admin page? When I do that, what then? Can the firmware be upgraded from that page?
