Backup Exec error: ReadFile Failed...Error 87 in Application Log

Here is the setup. WIndows SBS 2003 Server with Backup Exec 10d that I inherited support for.

They have 5 backup job, one for each weekday that does a complete backup to Backup-to-Disk Folders. The drive with the Backup-to-Disk Folders was very full and I have been trying to get it cleaned out.

I tried to erase the library with a Backup Exec job but it always fails wiht this error in the Job Log:
Final error: 0xe000e005 - The job has reported multiple errors. See the job log for details.
Final error category: Backup Device ErrorsCompleted status: Failed.

I inspected the Application log and found many erros such as this, one for each file involved;

Question:
What is Z:? Is it an external drive or a network share?
What kind of external drive? USB or SCSI?
Did the backup ever work?

Suggestion:
Try to use other space than Z:, for example, try to backup to some local drive or tape (if available) to see if the problem is gone.
Other suggestion is reconfigure the buffer as the following article:

Hi and thanks for the reply.

Z: is a 450MB internal RAID 1 SCSI drive. The backup works about half the time Fails a lot on the Message Store. I just got involved recently. Having a hard time climbing the learning curve with Backup Exec. Tape drive has been flaky, we recently replaced that with 5- USB hard drives andd daily  Windows Backup job

I guess I just expect the erase job to work. Seems odd that it does not. I can delete the files from Windows Explorer but somehow I think Backup Exec doesn't like that method. Is there another correct way to remove the old backups? Just Delete?

I'm still trying to keep BackupExec because it has some nice features. Not sure if it's worth it.
