How can I stop Windows XP and Windows 2000 Clients from losing connection to the Domain

I have speratic problems with some users running Windows 2000 Professional and Windows XP Professional not being able to login to the Domain. This happens with long time existing accounts and brand new accounts.
When client goes to login they get a message that says... Windows can not connect to the domain. Either the domain is down or unavailable, or the computer account is not found.

So the temporary fix I do,  is login as admin to the local machine,  and take them out of the domain. Then put them into a temporary workgroup. I then reboot the computer and do the revese. Add them back to the domain and after the reboot they are connected and life is wondeful until the next time they shutdown and power back on.

One thing I have tried is, from the Servers active directory, Users and computers, I delete the Computer of the problem child.  This has no effect on Windows XP Clients, but on a couple of Windows 2000 Clients this worked and the problem went away.

At this point I'm lost? So if anyone can throw me a bone or Two and maybe lead me in the right direction to the promis land I would be very thankful.
Thanks for your time and support,
Goz
