Network Cable Unplugged - Integrated Atheros NIC
Hi Experts:
I have a clone PC with a ASUS P5GC-MX Motherboard running Windows XP Pro SP2. The Network Adapter is an Atheros, integrated on the motherboard.
My LAN connection has been working happily until a few days ago.
Now I keep getting "A network cable is unplugged" message. The cable is fine. Tested with laptop.
There are no lights on next to the PC's network connector.
I have booted my PC with several Linux distros - none of those give any LAN connectivity, so I suspect it's a hardware problem.
Is there anything I can do apart from replacing the motherboard or adding a PCI Network Card?
Regards,
Leigh

You can try to return BIOS default settings.

chck under Device Manager if its reporting any error with the card?
in case if it is, then you can uninstall and reinstall the card.
if the device amanger shows no errors, and report the device as working fine and still there are no lights, then its a defective hardware issue for sure
better get a PCI network card instead of replacing the whole mobo.

In my opinion probably only new NIC will help you...

Hi wlacroix:
Resetting the switch fixed the problem. Wow! Why didn't I think of that?

Ok so this might happen again, you can almost bank on it. Bet your boss some cash, and make a little money!
Plan on a replacement of these switches.
