You also had a faulty RAM dimm that caused the file corruption?

Yes, if the VM is powered off. It will get created again when you start the VM.

Does the guest still respond to pings ? Do you have any indication it is actually still alive ?

Try connecting with your viclient directly to the esx server it's running on and see if you can power it off.

Could the LUN this VM is running on be out of diskspace? vdf -h

You virtual center may be out of date with the actual situation, thus preventing you from powering it off.

Login to the ESX using a remote shell (ssh) and issue the following commands:

service mgmt-vmware restart
service vmware-vpxa restart

Then restart the VC service. This way you should be sure you see the actual situation.

The VC service is a Windows service on your VC server. Restart as any Windows service in Control Panel/Administrative tools/Services.

Looks like your /var/log partition is full... Preferably you should also allocate more space than 23MB for /var/log.

You should use a larger partition; I would recommend you to use at least 2GB.
