DNS not resolving on MACs when secondary DNS server is offline.
Our company uses MACs [mostly on OS X Tiger] as clients. On our back end services, we use several servers running WINDOW SERVER 2003 which include our DNS/WINS SERVERS.
We have TWO DNS/WINS SERVERS. When I turn off the SECONDARY DNS SERVER, half of my MACS at our other offices on other routed/vpn networks can not resolve the name of the PRIMARY FILE SERVER at the main office located in another routed/vpn network. Access to this server only works with IP ADDRESS until the SECONDARY DNS SERVER is turned back on, even though on the individual MAC CLIENTS the IP Addresses of the DNS servers are EXPLICITLY entered in. Also in the DNS Management console on the TWO DNS/WINS SERVERS, I can connect to the SECONDARY DNS SERVER.
It looks like the DNS servers are not automatically taking the DNS request from the MACs that where resolving to the SECONDARY DNS SERVER?
Is there a setting[s] that needs to be set on the DNS servers running WINDOW SERVER 2003 std that I overlooked.
Any help will be appreciated,
