Deleted X400 question

We're running exch 2007...Last night I changed the legacyexchangeDN (CN field) for JOE because it was showing a previous employees name (BILL).  I sent a test to the email after the change to make sure it went through and it came back as undeliverable.  I went into exchange management, and saw there was 2 X400 address for this person, one was JOEs, and the other BILLs.  Since BILLs email address was in the decsription of the underliverable, I delete BILLs X400, leaving the only JOEs.  It worked fine for a few hours, and then internal people email JOE were getting undeliverables.  I went back into the legacyexchangeDN and changed it back to how it was before the issue and its working again, all emails are coming through fine.  The only change that remains is BILLs deleted X400 under JOEs accout (Again, JOEs X400 is still there)
Even though the email is working again, will the deleted second X400 create issues for me?

So changing the LegacyDN was the issue?  Did I make the right move by just changing it back to what it was before the issue started?   Just want to make sure that was ok to do.
