How to setup an company general exchange mailbox for multiple users and keep track of who has answered the emails
I am setting up Exchange Server 2003 for an organization that uses sales@companyname.com for a general mailbox that users ask questions to. They have 3 or 4 people that monitor that mailbox so that they can keep on top of answering the users questions. My question is how do I set up an exchange mailbox for sales that will deliver the email to the appropriate users and then keep track of when a user has responded to a question?
Currently they use IMAP through their existing email provider and when someon answers a question, they delete the email which draws a line through the email which the other users can see and know that the email has been answered. Should I set it up the same way or is there a better way?

wizzad is absolutely correct, mail enabled public folders are the recommended way of handling mail for multiple users.

OK. So I followed the tutorial and got the mailbox setup. One problem now is that the step concerning "Maintain per-user read and unread information for this folder" does not work appropriately. What happens is that when this option is unchecked the messages never change from an unread state to a read state regardless of someone reading them. When checked, it only changed from unread to read for the individual that is reading the messages.

Anyone know how to get this to work so that no matter who reads the message everyone accessing the folder will see that the message has been read?

How about this: When a user picks up a call, he adds a red flag on the message so others know it's being dealt with!

What a great idea! I think I was overthinking it.
:) we're often used to dealing with complex issues, so sometimes the simplest solutions elude us!

I ran it by the people I am setting this up for and they agreed that they like the red flag and check marks better than the old system.
