File Download Security Warning in IE6/IE7 for .js files

Last Modified: 2013-12-08
I know this is an age old problem but for some reason I am unable to stop the File Download Security Warning from popping up when navigating to certain sites, eg

If run in Firefox, the contents of the file is run or displayed but I can't seem to make this happen in IE. Can anyone suggest what needs doing?

Thank you.

Hello NewsInternationalLtd,

Go to Tools | Internet Options | Advanced.
Check the box to Disable script debugging.
Uncheck the box to Display a notification about every script error.

Disable the Script Debugger in IE (Line 142) - Win XP

1. You might want to refresh your scripting engine: Windows Script 5.7 for Windows XP

Sometimes there's a corrupt file in the cache and one must go to Tools | Internet Options and click Delete Files.

2a. Start>Run>Regsvr32 vbscript.dll

2b. Start>Run>Regsvr32 jscript.dll

(WinXP users who have problems with 2a and 2b, see

3. Re-register all DLLs listed in http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=281679

5a. IE Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>Browsing>Enable third-party browser
extensions (uncheck & reboot).

Hope this helps!

Apologies, meant to come back to this. I spoke to Microsoft PSS and they told me this is by design and that there isn't a way around it.

NewsInternationalLtd--Does your post mean that IE by default is protecting you from access to that site?
Did they give any reason why?  As I suggested in my earlier post, http://js.revsci.net/gateway/gw.js?csid=J055300 seems like an unsavory site.
Not protecting from access to the site itself, just accessing a .js file directly from a URL without the message being displayed.

NewsInternationalLtd--Thanks for the info.  I gather you have accessed that URL using Firefox, with no ill effect.
Indeed I have, that's not the problem, it's only with IE.

My post ID: 22171454 said "js.revsci.net  looks like a pretty unsavory site to me.  It appears on the list of several ad blockers and may involve a Web Bug.  Maybe the Security Warning is well founded.'  (I then gave reference links to support this comment.)
It seems IE is only doing the job that its security settings are supposed to do.
NewsInternationalLtd in a subsequent post said "Microsoft PSS and they told me this is by design and that there isn't a way around it."  Seems MS agreed with me.
