Trouble loading picturebox at runtime vb.net

Im trying to load a picture at runtime in using the following code
pictureBox.Image = new Bitmap (\qvgalogo.bmp); It fails with a FileNotFoundException
Ive tried it like pictureBox.Image = new Bitmap (qvgalogo.bmp); and it fails. The filename is spelled correctly and it exists in the root folder of the project. I should add that there are other local files referenced for building tables and the app is able to find the path to them with no problem. So what am I doing wrong here?

            picCissLogo.Image = New Bitmap("qvgaLogo.bmp") or
            picCissLogo.Image = New Bitmap("\qvgaLogo.bmp") still fails
