I'm hoping to get some information on sFTP vs FTP over SSL.

I've implemented a number of connections to sFTP servers in the past, using various sFTP clients.  Now, specs for a new project list secure FTP to a server by accessing the url: https://servername.

This to me seems different from sFTP, and looks like some type of FTP access over SSL?  Does this seem right?  If anyone can explain the difference to me, I would really  appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!
