Which Antivirus solution on a Win2008 x64 + Exch2007 ?

Hi there,

I'm building a server with Win2008 Std x64 and Exch2007 Std x64.
I have two more servers (ISA2006 on a Win2003 and CRM4.0 on a Win2003).

I'm trying to firugre out what Antivirus solution to setup.  TrendMicro has confirmed that the latest build of WorryFree is not x64 compatible, and Symantec MultiTier seems partially compatible as well (for instance the console cannot run on a Win2008 server).

I could use Forefront but the last install I did on a lab environment created a 50gb SQL database, not ideal...  Unless you can advise me on the proper setup (forefront and sql), I won't go down that path.

So I need your advice on an "design" point of view, if I went with Symantec for instance, which components of MultiTier should I install on which server,  There is the Endpoint protection, the Endpoint console, the SMEX protection and the SMEX console. Some components are x64b compatible, some are not but are still win2008 compatible or vice-versa, etc etc this is all too confusing.

Thanks.

i am running the same setup at my office here, and i am utilizing symantec AV clients on all server. installing the management portion on my w2k3 system and just having the AV CLIENT on my 08/exchange2k7 server. but i am also utilizing anti-spam agents on my hub transport role.

symantec has been pretty good to me thus far, i also had the same issue with forefront in a test i did, but i would out if you set the database to be compressed nightly with a scheduled job the issue goes away...i still went with symantec though as it is easier in my opinion.

Mmh koay that's option 1 for Symantec, what about Forefront, is that "normal" to have a 50gb database ?
no not really...but i ran into the same problem the first time i installed forefront, my quick and dirty was to set up a scheduled job to truncate the database and logs....havent had a problem since, and the second install i did didnt have that problem
Just checked the minimum specs for a Forefront install, it requires 100gb or more, that solves it.

I'll try Symantec and let you guys know, following both your advices.  What about SMEX by the way ?
im not fim not familiar with smex. i just symantec information foundation to scan emails
just <---- use i hate this spell checker :p
Yeah that's what I meant, SMEX is now IF

So :
EndPoint Protection Server : Win2008
EndPoint Protection Management : Win2003
Quarantine Server : Win2008
Information Foundation : Win2008 + Exch2007

Correct ?
i would stronly recommend setting all the software in a w2k3 server and manage it from there it will be easier to unistall the av client from the win2k8 sever as in case something goes wrong.
Thanks JimmyMcp02 all installed fine :)
