How do you use a FQND for a business network?

We would like to have our network's domain be used as a web domain as well (we used to use xxxxx.local, now we'd like to use xxxxxx.com), but I'm not quite sure how to do that. Can someone tell me what process I should go through to assign my server to an internet-registered domain?

You mean you want to host your external public website on an internal web server, correct?

If you clarify that point, I'll post details on what you need to do.

I'm sorry, I'm a bit of an amateur with all this. We had SBS2003 for a while, and just used a ".local" domain. I was thinking it would be nice to have a .com domain so that if we hosted our email services on our own server through exchange, we could have our branded domain after it. We already have this with a hosted account, bluehost, but we really don't want to host our own web site, we just want to be able to use that domain for our network.

Just reading that back to myself sounds convoluted, so maybe an alternative would be to register a similar domain, eg. instead of Acme.com, Acmeinc.com, and work with that?

Really I just want to know the first steps I need to go through to accomplish something like that. Any helpw ould be much appreciated.
