Relay from exchange 2003
Hi Everyone,
I have an exchange 2003 and all users are recieving emails through POP connector no prob, however I have 3 virtual users which are part of the domain (I.E: they are having the organisation email but they are not part of the exchange global address list and they check the email through webmail) so when the internal users are sending emails to those users the email bounces back with NDR as the user is not part of the domain,
I wanted to know if there is any way to redirect emails to email addresses of the same domain and to bypass the GAL so they will be relayed to the internet?
thanks in advance!
shany
The following recipient(s) could not be reached:
xyz@abc.com
The e-mail account does not exist at the organization this message was sent to. Check the e-mail address, or contact the recipient directly to find out the correct address.
 <ABC.com #5.1.1>

What happens when the internal users send email to the complete smtp address. say virtualuser1@domain.com
ASKER
if I send the mail to full SMTP address it still bounce back with the same error:
The following recipient(s) could not be reached: #5.1.1

Do these virtual users have proper AD accounts in your Domain. How have you hidden them from the GAL.
ASKER
they don't have an account on the AD, and the AD dont know about thier existence, they are only using a virtual mailbox which is not connected at all to the AD. They are just like external users but using the same ailias of our domain IE the email is xyz@abc.com, and our internaly is xxx@abc..com
In that case it wont work. Because when an email is sent to these users internally or externally. It will hit your Exchange Server. Exchange server sees theres no account in the AD or Exchange System. It will send an NDR.
What you can do is create a normal AD User for these accounts and assign them the email address you want and hide them in the GAL using the Exchange Advanced Tab.

thanks for your answer, but I thought there is a way (maybe by creating a new SMPT relay or new connector) to ask the server that if the address is not in the GAL to forward it to the internet
Even if theres a way to forward to the Internet, where will it go from there. It needs to go to some Mail Server. Every email address needs to have an account on some mail server.
ASKER
they have a mailbox which is hosted with the ISP, they are using a webmail which is not connected to our excahnge, we are pulling the emails with POP protocol but they don't, and their emails are always held on the ISP server
