Multiple Exchange Servers and email external but not between themselves
We have an existing Exchange environment consisting of clustered backend servers (2 nodes), an Exchange front-end server in our UK AD site. I have created a new Exchange Server (Basic) in Japan (Japan AD site). All the servers are on the same domain but there are domain controllers in each site. Exchange System Manager shows all the servers in the Exchange environment.
There is a smtp link with AD sites and Services.
The UK Servers works fine, it can email externally and recieve from external addresses. It can email users on the same Exchange server fine.
The Japan server can email externally and recieve from External addresses. The message header shows the email route the exchange front-end server as required. It can email users on the same Exchange server fine.
I can move a mailbox between one the UK Exchange server and the Japan server fine.
The issue is the two exchange servers can not email between each other? The email sit in the other server queue, e.g. mail from the japan server sits the the london server queue on the japan server. This mail eventually times out with the error:
Could not deliver the message in the time limit specified. Please retry or contact your administrator.
<UK Server.domain.com #4.4.7>
There is a connector in place which is set to use DNS to route to each address space on this connector with a bridgehead which is the front-end server. The address space is defined as * with a cost of 1.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Rich

Thank you for your quick response. I have created a second routing group and moved the Japanese exchange server into the members of this group, leaving the UK front and back-end servers in the First Routing Group. I then created a connector called "Japan to London" on the japanese exchange server. This conenctor connects to the First Routing Group with the Japanese mail server allow to send mail over this connector. I then defined the remote bridgeheads as the two UK exchange servers.
I was give the option to create the equilivent connector which I accepted.
This created the routing groups and connectors on the japanese exchange server but only the routing groups were created when viewing the infromation on the UK server, does this take time to replicate?
When I try and send emails now from one exchange server to another or from Japan externally the messages get queued in the "Messages queued for deferred delivery" queue?
Any help would be great appreciated.

The routing groups and connectors after now appeared, looks like I should have waitied a bit longer.
However still no mail transfer. Just tried restarting the server in Japan and failing over the cluster in london but no luck, the messages now queue in the "Japan to London (Routing Group Connector)" on both servers?
Help is appreciated as this confusing me.

Nitin,
I have attached screenshots of the routing group connectors. The messages now queue in the "Japan to London (Routing Group Connector)". This includes the external ones from the Japanese server which previous were going out via the front-end server in London.

This issue is now solved. The resolution was to add the routing group connector and remove the SMTP fix up on the CISCO firewalls which create the VPN tunnel between the two servers.
Thanks for your help
