TRANSITION OF IT SERVICE COMPANY

Does anyone have a stardard form/procedure they use to document a company's network, servers, routers, ISP, etc? The goal is to provide accurate and complete information of the IT resources, enabling the new IT to respond efficiently. I know that this particular company has thin clients on remote locations, servers collocated, etc.

Thanks!

start at the top..network map, ips, dns, machine or router names.
then drill down into servers - os, hardware, software, config etc
workstations - typically a brief summary
backup, antivirus, passwords, active directory

theres heaps. A full audit will typically take me between 2 days and 2 weeks

Do you have standards forms for this? or maybe you can recommend some I can buy cheap?
i have a 100 page document that i use as a template for all new environments - then for an audit I detail everywhere that the site differs from my standard.
If they are paying you by the hour - you need to work out how much info you need/where their current doco is lacking etc.
make it clear what and how much of an audit they are getting for their money - are you going to look at software and licenses?
Yeap, pretty much everything. It's a three day process. The previous IT company is meeting tomorrow with me, to give "as little information possible" :) . There are things I can audit mysels and other aspects that would make my life easier if I asked them. That's why I'm thinking of a standard for documentating their IT infraestructure, make sure I ask all the right questions and  I dont miss anything. I want to be thorough, especially on the networking issues, for example they are using Cisco 1750 router to connect to their remote offices, etc.

Yes, everything from licences, printers, users, servers, network services, public IP, etc. Like I said I only have tomorrow to pick the brains of the previous IT's.

Thanks.
