can't get online Wep key 1
i cant get my laptop online, when i try to get online it asks me for a "WEP key 1. I went to the 192.168.1.1. but still cant find the wep key 1. Does anyone know where i can find this? Its a linksys router I know the model number begins with a B but thats all i know for now, i can find out later when i go back home if necessary.
With my Linksys, I use pre-shared keys.

Yes, you need security. If you can't use WPA, at least use WEP.

ok i can connect wired but i want to be able to connect wirelessly. i did not see a setting for a wep key when i went into security the other day i can look again when i get home. So i just look for encryption adn shut it off? i think i can handle that as long as i can find it? Thats not gonna mess anything up is it?

Anyhow, you should probably try to find the option to turn off security or whatever it may be called in the router/access point; stop it from using encryption and the WEP key will not be needed. Then you test the connectivity. If you feel you need to use a WEP key, you must find the place to set it and then it should just be a matter of using the same key in the laptop dialog box.
