USB Hard Drive Networking on Apple Network using Older Round Airport Extreme
The older, round Apple Airport Extreme does not allow the use of an external USB hard drive to be shared through the USB port on the Airport. Is there a way around this? Can one use the WAN port in the Airport. Can I hook the external hard drive to one of my G5 computers and share it over the network? Any alternatives? Thanks.
Yes, you can hang it off one of your G5's and share it that way. Make sure file sharing is turned on on the G5 and assign users and permissions to the USB drive by highlighting its icon, then typing Command-i (for Get Info). The resulting GetInfo box should allow you to share the drive and set users, permissions and passwords.

Thanks, Strung. I did make sure filing sharing was on the G5, but when I did GetInfo for the hard drive, there was no place that allowed input to set users, permissions or passwords, so I got stuck there. Thanks.
Which version of OS X are you using?
Here is how to set up file sharing in OS 10.5:

With OS 10.4 and older, use the link in Eoin Sullivan's post to download Sharepoints. (Sharepoints does not work in OS 10.5)

I'm using OS 10.3. I will try Eoin Sullivan's suggestion and let you know, thanks so much.
