SAN Option for Arcserve12 causing latency on all servers attached to fiber switch.
We are currently using the san option to backup data accross the fiber network from server1 and server2 to msl tape library. Lately we have noticed that the server hosting Arcserve 12 (media server) is causing latency and lag to all systems on the SAN. We can only clear the latency by shutting down the Arcserve Primary server. We have been unable to resolve why this is happening on a switched network. We have submitted supportshow logs to HP and are awaiting a resolution.
Has anyone else used the SAN Option and had these problems?

How is the SAN fabric configures? Is it wide open or is it configured, for example, with single-initiator soft zones?

Single Initiator. Server and Single Storage together. The only zone that has multiple servers in one zone is the backup zone that has MSL Tape Library and 3 servers.
It's worth trying three separate zones for the tape library and servers, or roll the tape library into the existing zones.
Another thought - does the issue go away if you simply take the ArcServe primary server out of the FC fabric?

I shutdown the Primary server and it seemed to stop. But I have restarted the Primary server and have yet to see the problem happen again. I am going to be doing some more large database restores to test and see if it happens again. I am hoping it is not disk contentionon the EVA san. HP reported back that the supportshow logs showed no errors on any ports including the port the Primary server is on. But again I have yet to duplicate the problem. It just magically seemed to disappear.
Oh, goody. That makes it *so* easy to troubleshoot.... :-)
