Exchange ActiveSync Error 3005

I'm trying to set up ActiveSync on a single SBS2003 server running Windows Server 2003 SP2 and Exchange SP2.  Everytime I try to sync up with an iPhone 3G, I get the following error in the Event Viewer:

Event Type:      Error
Event Source:      Server ActiveSync
Event Category:      None
Event ID:      3005
Date:            8/7/2008
Time:            8:29:33 PM
User:            Domain/User
Computer:      myserver
Description:
Unexpected Exchange mailbox Server error: Server: [myserver.domain.local] User: [user@domain.com] HTTP status code: [501]. Verify that the Exchange mailbox Server is working correctly.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

So far, I've followed the instructions on the following knowledgebase articles:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/898131  (add host header for local netBIOS name)
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817379 (method 2; add new exchange-oma virtual server)
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883380 (method 2; reset exchange virtual directories)

- I have a valid SSL cert; OWA works fine in https or http.
- When I go to mydomain.com/Microsoft-Server-Activesync, I get an HTTP 501 error (not implemented), which is expected (or so I've read).
- When I go to mydomain.com/oma, it tells me the device type I'm using is not supported, but otherwise let's me browse through my email in a text interface.  This is also to be expected (or so I've read).

What else can I check to figure out this problem?

this sounds like an issue with oma
try this for me:
browse to https://servername/oma..if oma is the issue you would see the following error
A System error has occurred while processing your
request. Please try again. If the problem persists, contact your
administrator.

if this is the issue, i have found that reinstalling exchange service pack 2 sometimes fixes this...

ASKER

As I noted towards the end of my first post, when I go to mydomain.com/oma, it tells me "the device type you're using is not supported" (because I'm using a PC), but otherwise let's me browse through my email in a text interface.  I believe this indicates that oma is working correctly.
