Configure MS Exchange Server 2003 for SBS to send / receive mail through internet

Hi,

I have installed exchange server 2003 for SBS. I have configured it. Its working fine on Lan. I can send and receive mails from AD users across the LAN.

Now I want to send and receive mails outside the network on internet.

I have domain registered with godaddy (www.coinopsolutions.net). I have router working as DHCP server. I have my exchange installed on 192.168.x.2 and Router has ip 192.168.x.1

Can anyone guide me what all entries i have to do in forward lookup zone. Do i need to do some settings in godaddy.com?

tell me what all settings needs to be done to send and receive the mail across the internet.

also it will be great if you can guide me to open a port for SMTP on router CISCO UC520

Your help will be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Vikas

you may find that you can already send
you should also look at
opening up port 443,80 (on the router) to allow outlook web access and outlook mobile access.

ASKER

do i need to mention static ip which i got from ISP somewhere or by default it will recognise it?

Do i need to do some kind of setting in forward lookup zone?

I am unable to run the server management wizard as it is missing in my system. I tried all the option to get it but invain. Even tried reinstalling it. Dint work.

will be great if you can suggest me how to get back server management wizard.
do you mean:

1)i need to create a mx record pointing to godaddy in the forward lookup zone

2)and pointing the godaddy towards my exchange server by providing my public ip on godaddy
Vikas,

You already have a question opened for this;

https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/23625375/Configuring-MS-Exchange-2003-for-SBS-to-send-and-receive-mails-on-internet.html

PLEASE DO NOT RE-ASK the same question without giving the opportunity for the resolution first time round!

Dear Adam,

Sorry for opening the question again. you must have seen what answer i got....somebody asked to increase the point value so that more people can help me....rediculous.....i just want the resolution. I found that after increasing the point people have started to answer...whose fault is this.

Dont know how increase the point..so opened new question...

Also i never got answer to my previous question raised in May

I am new to exchange and also new member of Experts-exchange...so dont have much knowledge about it...

I have not installed the SBS its been installed since 2005 i have been asked to install/ configure exchange...
tried launching it from the path you mentioned...dint worked...

==>>I have already updated the mx record in go daddy to point to  static ip supplied by my ISP.

Tell me Adam, do i need to do something in the DNS forward lookup on my exhange server

Thanks in advance

*** 'somebody asked to increase the point value so that more people can help me....rediculous'

I think you will find that was ME!

*** Dont know how increase the point..so opened new question...

You can't increase the points value of an open question. You should however have closed the question properly and then openned a new question. Read the FAQs and you will find out how to do this

*** Also i never got answer to my previous question raised in May

I don't know what your question was in May, but the one I linked above was in June to which I did give you links showing how to configure internet email on Small Business Server

*** I am new to exchange and also new member of Experts-exchange...so dont have much knowledge about it...

Good luck with Exchange, its a good product. Welcome to Experts Exchange, its a good website!

*** I have not installed the SBS its been installed since 2005 i have been asked to install/ configure exchange...

It sounds to me like you have a bad install of SBS. Depending on the size and configuration of your network it may be best to re-install. How many clients have you?

*** Tell me Adam, do i need to do something in the DNS forward lookup on my exhange server

When you run the CEICW wizard this will configure all which is required. However, you do need to be able to access it first, which brings me back to the previous question.... How many clients are there on your network?

Adam
Dear Adam,
Right now Just 6 clients
but i have Accpac and ELO document management system working on my server.
Reinstalling SBS might cause problem to those application which has huge data stored.

Thanks in advance

With only six clients I would be re-installing SBS. It sounds like you have inherated a poorly installed/maintained SBS server. You will undoubtedly continue to run into trouble.

Look to move your Accpac and ELO to another box/server, export any mail you have to pst files, move an data/ sharepoint stuff then rebuild and re-import.

Adam
Can you please tell me what settings i need to do on godaddy where my domain is...

what all settings i need to do in DNS management on my server

is it necessary that my server name should be same as my domain name?

let me try with this...if it doesnt works then i have reinstall SBS.

Regards,

Vikas
you dont need to do anything to dns on your server.
you need to create a host record for mail.yourdomain.com at godaddy pointing to your IP
and then an mx record, priority 20, pointing to mail.yourdomain.com

then you will be fine.

leave your internal domain alone.
oh..
and your server name and internal domain dont have to be the same as your external domain name.
convention is
servername:  whatever you like but logical eg: sbsserver, companyserver, fileserver1, companysbs etc
internal domain:  typically...company.local
external domain: typically company.com, but you can have several external domains pointing to your sbs server and you can send/receive for all theses domains  company1.com company2.co.uk company3.com.au company4.com  etc etc
having your internal domain setup as company.com will make things a little messy - but not impossible. - just a few issues when an internal user tries to go to www.company.com and that page is hosted somewhere else.
do i need to have an email address on godaddy same as in my active directory

do i need to creat a email in godaddy
how to check that port 25 is open for internet?
there are a number of port scanning web sites

such as..
http://probe.hackerwatch.org/probe/probe.asp

or - send yourself an email from a hotmail account - nothing beats a real test.
and in answer to the previous question..
you dont need an email address configured at godaddy.
go daddy will be only managing your dns, dns will refer the mx record to your servers IP, and your server will receive the email.
Thanks for the help port is fine

Can help me with godaddy settings. what to do where???

Also i made some changes in the DNS now when i do netdiag it throws the error

" [WARNING] The DNS entries for this DC are not registered correctly on DNS se
'192.168.2.2'. Please wait for 30 minutes for DNS server replication.
[FATAL] No DNS servers have the DNS records for this DC registered.

Can you please help me to get out of this?
