What DNS Servers Should My Site DNS Servers use for their Primary DNS
I have approximately 60 sites. Each Site has one 2003 DC which is also their DHCP server and their DNS server. One of the sites which is the Default-First-Site Has the PDC Emulator which is also the DNS server. I'm receiving two different recommendations to use and I'm not sure which one is best.
To start with, all the DHCP scopes have the workstations looking to their own site server for their DNS server.
The first recommendation and the one we are presently using is that all the DNS servers are looking to the Default-First-Site DNS server as their Primary DNS and then they look to themselves as the secondary. The theory being that if they lose connection to the First site they can then look to themselves.
The second recommendation is to have all Site DNS servers look to themselves first and to the Default-First-Sitre server second. This sounds better to me but I'm not really sure.
What configuration should we be using.
Thanks,
David

DNS servers should point at themselves as primary DNS server. Why let them send out DNS queries on your network when they have all the information locally?

So would I even need a secondary. Would it ever need to look to a secondary server?
