Does Microsoft make a PXE-boot deployment solution for Windows images?
Greetings all -
I can't keep track of Microsoft's deployment suites, toolkits, etc. I am looking for a new solution to deploy desktop images to my workstations in my enterprise using some sort of automated system. I would like to be able to boot my workstation, have it do a PXE boot to an image server, and have the user select the image he/she wants to install and have it get pushed down via the network.
Does Microsoft make anything like this? I've seen names like "Business Desktop Deployment 2007", "Microsoft Deployment Toolkit 2008" (which appears to be the newer version of BDD 2007). Do these products help me do this? What Microsoft-based products can do the PXE boot deployment I'm looking for?
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks!

The best solution for that would be a custom made application. We have looked into this and was not able to find anything that suited our needs and what you are looking for is even more complicated. The other problem you will run into is if the users will be imaging their own computer then they will need rights to join a machine to the domain and that would be a security nightmare.

For my purposes, security is a non-issue. Products like Ghost can perform this task with ease, however, I'm interested in knowing if Microsoft makes a PXE-based solution for things like this.

I have SCCM deployed in my environment but how does that help me with the PXE situation? SCCM supports some method of PXE booting for image deployment?

Also works with BDD and MDT images to PXE boot into them.

So if I was going to use SCCM to deploy images via PXE boot, do I need any of the following other pieces:
WDS - Windows Deployment Services
MDT - Microsoft Deployment Toolkit
The link between WDS and MDT is not one clearly defined and even the links here don't clarify it in my head. :)
So what else is needed if I have SCCM and the PXE service point configured?
