uninstall and reinstall of visual studio 2008 pro

i installed this program and it worked fine. i then had to uninstall it due to a problem now i am totally unable to reinstall. i get the error message " setup encountered a problem while trying to copy g:\setup\vssetupWatson\dw20.EXE". this after 65 of the 71 files it needed to copy before installation would start.i notice from various blogs that many people are having problems with re installation.
thanks for any help

You might consider trying this:

- if you are on Vista, disable Windows Defender
- copy the contents of the install DVD to your harddrive
- make sure you are logged in as administrator
- start the installation from HDD
i tried copying to the hard drive but the system got so far then refused to copy any more. i can't get dw20.exe to load. i eventually got my system back by restoring a full back up. i have now given up on vs 2008. i am going back to vs 2005 which works fine.
jenkinsdjj, it is good to know you fould a solution. It is also good to know about your experience as I was considering a move to 2008, maybe I will wait now.
Best of luck.
from the various blogs it appears more than a few are having the same problem with vs 2008. i shall wait at least a year before i move over to it as i can do all i want in vs 2005. thanks everyone for your suggestions.

my problem turned out to be a defective dvd. it was badly scratched so i used t-cut (the car polish restorer to remove the scratches and it worked perfectly). i am now a very happy user of vs 2008 pro. sorry to have dragged you experts into my problems.

Hi David,
Actually it is ok, and I really appreciate the update.
It turns out that this kind of thing happens and just prooves that sometimes we need to look at the simple things to find the cause. I am happy to hear that it is working for you now.
